According to this morning's Press Herald, Westbrook's Hannaford is the fourth-largest lottery sales agent in Maine.
Hannaford sold $776,877 worth of Megabucks, Powerball, and an assortment of scratch-tickets throughout the fiscal year 2007. In return, the State of Maine paid the Westbrook grocery store an 8 percent commission for each scratch-ticket sale and a 5 percent commission for each lottery ticket sold for a total of $53,084 in commissions.
Interestingly, Hannaford has six of the state's top 10 lottery sales agents (Biddeford, #2; Portland, #3; Westbrook, #4; South Portland, #5; Lewiston #7; and Standish, #9), but Shaw's has only one (Portland, #6). Lisbon Street News of Lewiston (#1), J & S Oil of Manchester (#8), and Victor News Co. of Lewiston (#10) round out the remaining top 10.
