It seems even the Valentine Phantom is exporting some of the 'ol Forest City charm to Westbrook.
According to a piece in this week's Portland Phoenix, a group of anonymous Mainers (presumably Portlanders) have hung pieces of white paper featuring red hearts around Portland on most every Valentine's Day since 1976 (they were a day late in 1978). But a casual walk down Westbrook's Main Street would suggest the posters have now expanded into the Paper City.
Business and church windows and signs along Westbrook's main artery have been adorned with the trademark signs since Valentine's Day. But there's no word as to whether the signs are in any way related to the original Big City capers. Nor do I think there will be any time soon.
