Governor Baldacci is proposing to flat-fund local schools next year to help balance the budget.

Transportation Committee will debate a plan that would prevent Maine from issuing driver's licenses to non-residents.

PPH: Though transportation plan involving mass transit is essential, the improvement of I-295 and the Maine Turnpike is necessary.

Laurie Dobson: Maine should adopt a tax on transfers involving securities such as stocks, bonds, collateralized debt obligations, mortgage-backed securities, and mutual funds.

BDN: Cooperation between Maine and New Brunswick could be mutually beneficial.

Sara Alexander: State must act to require parental consent for schools to prescribe birth control pills to children ages 11-18.

Dr. Daniel Summers: Legislature should defer any consideration regarding parental consent and birth control until 124th Legislature.
