Legendary trombonist Don Doane, who has played withDoane will be making a special appearance with the Port City Jazz Band at the York Harvestfest at the York Beach ball field today, from 12:30-4p.
Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, takes the stage
for Harvestfest today ... Doane, 77, of Westbrook, Maine, now plays from a
wheelchair, having suffered a stroke that paralyzed his left side. "I can't
walk, can't use my left arm, I couldn't hold my slide trombone," Doane said in a
phone interview on Friday. "It's funny, the doctors said I would never play the
trombone again. I knew in the back of my mind, I had a valve trombone at
home."
