Will City Council Reverse Skybox Vote?

AJ:
The Westbrook City Council will have the
opportunity to avoid a lawsuit against the city by overturning a vote to deny
Skybox Bar and Grill its license to serve food. Skybox owner Allen Moore filed a
suit against the city last week for denying him licenses to serve food, have a
pinball machine and have a pool room, effectively shutting down the bar, because
the state requires food to be served anywhere liquor is served.

Nope the fight goes on! When will we be treated like every other business in this town? If we prove to be the biggest nuisance in town that is one thing but every business can be nuisance to their neighbor, where is that line drawn? Sue Joyce stated she had asked everyone in the immediate vicinity and they knew that the bar isn’t and hasn’t been the problem so how can this bar be a nuisance to the area? How many other businesses had complaints in the last 5 weeks? Should their license be pulled for nuisance?

Welcome to the Peoples Republic of Westbrook, where any business at any time can be shutdown based on someone deciding they may be a nuisance....don't worry if you win in court they then will try to rezone you out of existance, just like they are trying to do with Pike. The City could give out all those raises to the hardworking City employees if they would stop spending money on lawyers who are defending all the lawsuits from the City catering to the special interests. Only ones making out here are the two City attorneys (who by the way are giving out the advice to the City on how to handle these things??!!)

President Reilly made a comment at last nights meeting on how he believes it is dangerous to file lawsuits against the city. He was really saying that citizens or business owners of Westbrook have no rights to protect them selves against abuse of power? We are three for three with our battles with the city. We will now go for number 4. The courts will hear our case and there is much more information to come forward. The skybox dilemma is about much more than a liquor license. It is about a city that conducts business in arbitrary ways. I would like to see the list of people and businesses that have been wronged in this town over the past forty years. The Moores and any one else under these circumstances have to stand up for vested rights. The city beat the previous owners of the Skybox into quitting. We will not quit, justice is served!! The Skybox is open for business. So please come on down and enjoy. Everybody is welcome.
