Anthony D'Alfonso, the former Westbrook High School (and current University of Southern Maine) baseball standout, has made the best of his opportunity with the Sanford Mainers.
To date, D'Alfonso has hit .467 in seven games with the Mainers, a summer team who plays in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (think the Cape Cod League, except not as many Major League prospects or tourist-laden beaches).
And finally, for what's worth, I worked as a team statistician for the Mainers a few summers ago and heartily recommend you make the trip to Sanford for a game at least once this summer. The Mainers boast a cozy stadium, passionate fans, and good baseball. It is, in my opinion, an underappreciated event a Maine summer has to offer.
