March 15, 1820: Maine Became the 23rd State

Forget St. Paddy's Day, the 188th anniversary of Maine's independence from Massachusetts is the real reason you and I should be celebrating this weekend.

So besides doing what I told you to do on Thursday, I recommend you also check out the Maine Historical Society's virtual museum of statehood-related artifacts, as well as its online exhibit devoted to the Father of Maine, Gov. William King.

Do drink responsibly.
