PLUS: 3 Ways to Combat a Budget Crunch!

To make up for the $414,000 (of $12.4 million) the Westbrook School Department won't be receiving from the state in the 2008-2009 fiscal year, Superintendent Stan Sawyer announced the following savings:
  1. Principals, administrators, department heads, retired teachers, and IT personnel will help cover teacher absences, an estimated savings of $20,000.
  2. Thermostats will be turned down one degree, which will reduce heating costs by an estimated three percent.
  3. Possible pay freeze or reduction in pay for teachers next year.
