Council Tables Re-Zoning, Mayor Urges Compromise

Supporters of Pike Industries and the neighbors and businesses that oppose its
quarrying operation in the Five Star Industrial Park packed a hearing room
Monday night as city councilors considered rezoning the park. Councilors
heard nearly three hours of testimony and hour-long presentations by Pike and
representatives of Westbrook Works, a coalition of businesses that includes
Idexx Laboratories. At the end of the hearing, Mayor Colleen Hilton asked
ask the council to table the issue for three months. The council voted 7-0 to
approve her recommendation.
