The City Council on Monday unanimously approved a zoning change that makes Pike- John C.L. Morgan
Industries' quarrying operation on Spring Street illegal--at least for now.
However, both city officials and Pike said they remain hopeful about forging an
agreement that would enable the company to resume operating on the site with
some restrictions. Pike opposed the ordinance change that rezoned the Five Star
Industrial Park and land around it from industrial to manufacturing. The
ordinance outlaws quarrying in the area, where Pike's property is located. In
fact, company officials on Monday threatened city councilors before they passed
the ordinance that Pike would file a lawsuit to oppose the rezoning in court.
