Formation of City Charter Commission on Tomorrow's Ballot

The question of creating a commission to review Westbrook's charter generated
intense debate among the city's Municipal's Officers last year. Even their vote
last fall to place the question on the ballot this month was a divided decision.
Some officials argued a commission is necessary to review the way the city's
strong mayor form of government works, and others contended the system isn't
broken and doesn't need fixing.But now that Westbrook residents are about to go
to the polls on Tuesday to decide on whether to form such a commission, debate
on the issue seems to have died down.
