Katherine Freund, the founder of the Westbrook-based Independent Transportation Network (ITN), has been awarded one the 2009 AARP The Magazine's Inspire Awards.
Identified as one of "ten extraordinary people age 50 and over who have made the world a better place through their innovative thinking, passion, and perseverance," Freund's selection puts her in the company as such people as quasi-Mainer Glenn Close (she's married to Idexx founder David Shaw and lives in Scarborough), musician Quincy Jones, and Gen. Colin Powell's wife Alma Powell.
